You chased turtles and snakes.
You chased baseballs and Frisbees.
You chased planes to Sweden.
And you never really chased women, which is an admirable trait.
You chased and realized your dreams.
And even though you still chase, you know when it's time to slow down.
To unwind.
To lower the kayak into a river and blend into the distant horizon.
To enjoy your wife and children.
To cook burgers on the grill and tilt a glass of Cabernet.
It seems like yesterday when we shared a room, little boys' conversations carrying into the darkness.
Hiking, camping, gathering firewood, eating corn pone.
Doing jigsaw puzzles on snow days and playing endless games of mini-billiards and pingpong.
It goes by fast.
I'm glad we've gone through the ride together.
Happy 50th birthday, brother.
Here's to another 50.
Cheers.
I second the happy birthday wishes.......although both of you brothers will always be the teens, standing by our dining room table on Monday night, munching chips & drinking soda! Ahhhh.......at heart, you are. 50 is only a number, as is 48, Dan. (And, for that matter, my 70) The memories are sweet. Love, Elaine
