I like to take one night a week for myself, after our little one is tucked in bed, to catch up on my blogging, social networking, DVD production and finessing my online music library.
Sometimes it's nice to pour a glass of wine that I nurse slowly as I navigate through all or some of the above.
Because it's just a glass, I open an everyday red as I know it's going to sit for a few days.
Last night, I goofed.
Thinking I was opening a value Chateauneuf-du-Pape (yes, you can find some for under $25), I poured a glass.
In the old days (pre little one), I would obsess over my wine inventory, knowing the history and cost of every bottle and the optimal time to drink it.
But I've been kind of busy these days and the wine database, if you will, has gotten sloppy.
Checking my wine notes on this particular bottle I just opened, I see it's a 2001 Domaine de Beaurenard, one I had actually been saving for a special occasion. It's retailing for $70 or so, if you can find it.
Oops.
It's sleeting out, our baby is sleeping and it's not too late.
This is a special occasion.
Life is good.
Cheers.
