Isn't it kind of sad to watch a celebrity make an impact for years, then have his or her reputation sullied by one event?
Stranger still, how does someone shake off the event to go on as if nothing happened?
Why do some people get away it, while others don't?
Here's the damaged list:
Kobe Bryant: great basketball player, forever linked to a sexual assault case.
Pete Rose: all-time Major League hit leader, forever linked to gambling, bad haircuts and relegated to the Home Shopping Network.
Martha Stewart: cooking and gardening icon, forever linked to insider trading.
Bill Buckner: 22 productive seasons in the big leagues, forever linked to a botched ground ball.
Michael Jackson: King of Pop, forever linked to odd behavior and sexual misconduct allegations.
O.J. Simpson: Legendary running back, forever linked to a murder case.
Robert Blake: "Baretta" star, forever linked to a murder case (still pending).
Those who survived:
Rush Limbaugh: Popular syndicated talk show host admits drug addiction, but is back on air and still drawing strong ratings.
Rob Lowe: Part of new Hollywood brat pack caught making sex videos with underage girls, now thriving as an actor once again.
Hugh Grant: Popular British actor caught with hooker in car, still popular and making successful movies.
Bill Clinton: Two-term president admits encounters with intern after lying about it, gets impeached, writes best-seller and is still the apple of the Dems' eye.
Odd, isn't it?
What about Paula Poundstone? Didn't she get arrested for child abuse or something?
