Wasn't crazy about the theme. Powder blue suits and platform shoes weren't exactly the glory years. Question: How can Paula judge critically when she's dancing during the performances? Whatever. Here's the order of how the seven finalists performed last night, with the odds of winning it all next month:
1. Bo Bice
Awesome. He could not have picked a better song, although "Vehicle" can hardly be considered '70s dance music. Bo sang this with heart and conviction, re-establishing his presence as a major player here. This was the perfect song for him and he nailed it. Still has work to do to challenge Constantine.
Odds of winning: 6-1
2. Vonzell Solomon
Wasn't her best performance, but it was really hard to hear her amid the wall of background vocals and the band. Thought she had to yell to force her agenda over the music. When you could hear her, she sounded good. Dazzling smile. Clearly should make the Top 3 and could be an outside threat to win it all.
Odds of winning: 4-1
3. Scott Savol (bottom 3)
It's unbelievable this guy is still around. But he's a good singer, no question. Thought he sang better than most of his peers last night, showing good tonality and range. Loved when he looked at his watch as everyone waited for Simon to make his comments. Scott waits for no one. Can he stick around another week? Perhaps. He's obviously got a fan base.
Odds of winning: 15-1
4. Anthony Federov (bottom 3)
Boy is he schmaltzy. Hated the song choice. This kid has a terrible taste in music, but he's one of the more talented singers. If he chose better songs, he might raise some eyebrows. One of the few singers last night where his vocals cut through the music. Sang it clean. Nice job. Give him credit.
Odds of winning: 15-1
5. Constantine Maroulis
Looked like Malcolm McDowell in "A Clockwork Orange" with that pasty face and eyeliner. Thought he did an OK job but, like Vonzell, was overwhelmed by the band. Wasn't much of a vocal performance. He's riding a wave of popularity so he's allowed a miscue now and then. Bo picked up some ground though. Liked the white jacket.
Odds of winning: 3-1
6. Carrie Underwood
She butchered the lyrics and none of the judges called her on it. Shame on everyone. At least Ryan hinted that she had trouble with the lyrics and she just joked about it. Not cool. Not at this stage of the game. Thought her timing was off and she was too subdued in spots. A few strong notes aren't enough to bail this out one out. Still the one to beat.
Odds of winning: 3-1
7. Anwar Robinson (bye, bye)
Thought this was a mess. Started pitchy, then when he found his groove the backup singers overwhelmed him. It's too bad. Anwar is talented but he just doesn't have the "it" factor. Nice guy, but would not be surprised to see him get the boot tonight. Thanks for playing.
Odds of winning: 15-1

Carrie and Constantine will sing in the final, but I would not be surprised to see Vonzell sneak in there.

Goodbye Anwar. You were right on.

Carrie really has lousy and i mean lousy stage showmanship, even Mr. Savol utilizes the stage better. If u ask me..deserving finalist is Vonzell and Constantine.
