Kudos to America. This is arguably the best final 3 in Idol's four seasons. The right singers are here. Bo, Carrie and Vonzell will record their own album, regardless of the outcome. But someone has to go. And if Ryan Seacrest is telling us the truth, one percentage point separates this group. Should be good drama. Here's the order of how the final 3 performed last night, with the odds of winning it all next Wednesday:
1. Bo Bice
If Bo shows up next week with the passion, commitment and originality he showed last night, game over. His a cappella "In a Dream" was a landmark performance, comparable to Fantasia's "Summertime." To make it to the final, you have to do something different. This was Bo's ticket. The Alabama statesman has turned the spirit of Idol upside down this season, proving that mainstream pop doesn't always come out on top. It's Bo show now, and it would be fabulous to see him take home the trophy next week.
Odds of winning: 2-1
2. Carrie Underwood
Came back strong after last week's debacle. Thought her rendition of "Cryin" was her best effort. Very passionate, emotional and professional. Wasn't overdone. The Bonnie Tyler-ish Air Supply was very good, but a little over the top in spots. It was tough following Bo's a cappella on this one, especially with no commercial break. The Shania Twain was just OK. She's good enough to be in the finals. Powerful singer who will need to be perfect to challenge Bo.
Odds of winning: 4-1
3. Vonzell Solomon (bye, bye)
Give this girl credit. She is, without a doubt, the most improved. Week after week she delivers, rarely making a mistake. She's now up against two heavy hitters in Bo and Carrie. Thought her Donna Summer was her best, although she got a little breathy with her dancing. "Chain of Fools" has been done to death. She loses credit here for picking something so overdone. Vonzell is a formidable No. 3, akin to Kimberley Locke, and will find success beyond Idol. Could she topple Carrie tonight? Perhaps, but it would be a surprise.
Odds of winning: 5-1

I would affectionately refer to a Bo-Carrie final as Stoner vs. Prom Queen.

Bo chose a Badlands song!! Wow that's balls if I ever saw em. Badlands is the 80's southern rock band Jake E Lee went to in the late 80's/early 90's after leaving Ozzy. The Badlands tune isn't completely acapella but probably should have been, as I think it worked better without the sliding guitar. This will be the best final yet. Good luck to Vonzell, she was pure class and would have toppled Fantasia if she were in this last year.

Carrie kicked some butt, my opinion the best american idol yet.
Thank god she nixed the country 80's hair. I just recently realized how
beautiful she is from some of her pics on the web. I made me her #1 fan :)

Old news, but Constantine should have been there.
:)
As it turns out, things are going to be MUCH better for him.
He is on the new Queen Tribute album, performing Bohemian Rhapsody.
