So Simon Cowell has worked out his contract dispute with Fox.
For the millions of TV viewers who tune in each week for "American Idol," that's a good thing.
Cowell is the star of the show. Without Cowell, Idol does not work. Randy Jackson is replaceable. Paula Abdul is definitely replaceable (J-Lo would work just as well). Cowell is not.
Cowell's acerbic wit and biting criticism is what draws viewers in. One never knows if he's going to like or hate someone. It's likely he has someone writing his witty criticisms like "that was a bad cabaret act" and "right now half of America is throwing their TV sets out the window," but it doesn't matter. His delivery is what viewers love, and it's why they keep coming back.
Simply put, Simon Cowell is the reason "American Idol" is the most popular show on television.
It's a good thing Fox worked it out. Otherwise, Idol would be jumping the shark before its time.
