OK. I caved. Sort of.
Thanks to the generosity of my in-laws, I am now the proud owner of an iPod with a 60GB hard drive.
So now I will load my music, packing the iPod with Iron Butterfly "Ball," Anandi "Forever Days" and Velvet Revolver "Contraband," among the other hundreds of CDs in my collection.
It's a wonderful gift.
But I will not use the shuffle feature.
At least not yet.
Welcome! The iDan has arrived. Kick off your shoes, relax, and enjoy a party of one.
Tips from my one year membership in the iClub follow:
1. This device will be a good friend during workouts. You might invest in some higher quality earpieces, they make a big difference. The $50. investment makes a big difference in sound quality.
2. At 60 Gigs you have plenty of room for both pictures of Chloe and never ending guitar solos from Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers Band. Storage capacity and it's usage should not concern you.
3. There is finer environment to block out while wearing your music than airports and airplanes. Arrive early, check your bags, and play something soothing.
4. With practice and with time you can work up to experimenting with the Shuffle feature; drink deep the serendipitous spendour that springs from the sensation of anticipation well-rewarded.

For an even smaller investment in headphones, consider the Sony MDR-EX81. They're about $30 and sound truly awesome for the price.
