Rising just after dawn, stretching, a quick breakfast, a short drive to Deerwood Golf Course.
A few practice putts then off for a glorious walk through the marshy woods, chasing a little white ball, swatting mosquitoes, chasing birdies but happy for par and bogey.
Slugging water to offset the 80-degree hit by late morning, reaching a milestone on this stretch of land on the New York-Canadian border.
An iced coffee and chocolate-frosted donut await during a downtime transition before packing the cars for the drive across the border.
Then it's onto the beach for a swim in Lake Erie (when you can swim in Canada in May, that's a good thing). Playing Frisbee in the water up to our waists, tossing a waterlogged nerf football, still moving, running, jumping into the late afternoon.
After dragging the beach accessories up the baking, steamy street, we fire up the grill, eat burgers, hot dogs, chicken kabob and pork sausage into the evening, washing it down with cold bottled water and a glass of Sangiovese.
Then the gifts come out, the only thing to get the children in from their endless chase around the cabin, cutting the cake and sipping coffee.
Then it's back across the border, righting a wrong turn on the other side, then settling back down.
The perfect birthday.
Glad you had a good birthday, Dan.

Sounds like perfect weather. I can't believe you could swim anywhere in Canada this time of year.
